Queen Victoria’s irrepressible love for Albert sparked a royal dynasty, but his untimely death brought the world’s most powerful woman to her knees with grief.

Northern Ballet’s reputation for outstanding narrative works has been sealed by their sensational streak of award-winning and critically acclaimed productions. Choreographed by Cathy Marston (Jane Eyre), their latest creation Victoria reveals the life of one of history’s most intriguing women – a life so fascinating that her daughter Beatrice tried to rewrite history.

Retold 200 years after Victoria’s birth, this major new production features dramaturgy by Uzma Hameed (Wayne McGregor’s Woolf Works) and an original score by Philip Feeney (Jane Eyre).

"Cathy Marston catches that fierceness in deft, character-driven storytelling… a vivid performance from the whole company"
THE INDEPENDENT on Jane Eyre

Victoria is a co-production between Northern Ballet and The National Ballet of Canada

I never buy a programme and found the flyer wanting. There was no brief synopsis, no indication of how many acts, how long it would last, who did the choreography or wrote the music. I had no idea what was going on but enjoyed the dancing and the costumes. The choreography was adequate and I thought the music was awful.

The show was amazing, the dancers were outstanding and the story line easy to follow - my daughter and I loved it!

Gabriel Vargas

It was a suprise for my partner and she absolutely loved it!

I really enjoyed the dancing and although the tickets I purchased were only £15 each, I could see everything clearly. My husband was a bit disappointed that the male dancers didn't leap about a bit more! Not yet a ballet fan obviously but working on it.

Absolutely fantastic

We loved this ballet - especially the music and the performance by the orchestra. As we attended a matinee we did not see the A-team of dancers but this didn’t detract from our enjoyment - although in future we might try to see the principal dancers. It was just as well we bought and read the programme beforehand because otherwise we would have had little idea of what was going on; the constant switching from present to past was confusing. The use of the red boxes was a clever way of showing the struggle for power. We enjoyed the slightly amusing way the birth of all Victoria’s babies were born! It was a pity about the very noisy curtain! Generally, it was a bit too long and there could be a few cuts. We have seen all Northern Ballet’s productions over many years and this one rates quite highly.

I enjoyed the show. Although I think it’s not really for 20s as I don’t see a lot of people my age there.... first part of show was bit tedious and I really enjoyed the second jalf

It was my first time to the ballet. I really enjoyed it but was glad I read up on the storyline as it would have been confusing.
